Peltophorum pterocarpum is a fast-growing evergreen tree with a dense, umbrella-shaped crown. It usually reaches a height of 15 - 24 meters. The straight, cylindrical bole is sometimes buttressed and can be 50 - 100cm in diameter.
The tree is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine and source of materials. It can be grown as a hedge and is also planted as a pioneer species for restoring native woodland. A very beautiful and elegant ornamental tree, it is widely cultivated for the purpose of shade too. The beautiful golden-yellow flowers may be used as cut flowers.
