Darwin’s Barberry

“Darwin’s Barberry is native to Chile and Argentina.

It can grow to 13 feet in height and was discovered by Charles Darwin in South America in 1835. It is one of the many species named in honour of him.

The flowers are bright orange found in drooping clusters over a long period in spring. The black berries are edible and used in Patagonia to make jams and jellies.

The Royal Horticultural Society has given this species its Award of Garden Merit.”
