Rocha Pear

“Rocha Pear is a variety of pear native to Portugal.

Its name is derived from Pedro Antnio Rocha as it was found on his farm. The fruit is resistant to handling and transportation, has a longer shelf-life besides being crunchy and a great fruit to eat between meals.

It gained popularity during 1960 to 1970 in Portugal and at the start of the 1990s, production volumes skyrocketed and its international reach intensified. Today, around 200,000 tonnes of Rocha pears are grown each season and this protected variety now represents 99% of Portugal’s total pear production. It is produced in several places around Portugal with around 9,450 producers.
